At the end of our teaching program, we shadowed a local physician at an OB/GYN clinic. It was interesting to see how they provided care in the setting of a local free clinic.
Non-medical adventures?
One weekend, we climbed to the top of Mt. Bromo, an active volcano in East Java, where we were able to look down into its center and see smoke billowing out. We also visited Yogyakarta, where we visited Borobudur Temple and Prambanan Temple, one of the largest Buddhist and Hindu temples in the world. After we were finished teaching, we snorkeled in the most beautiful coral reefs of the Komodo Islands and then spent the rest of the week exploring Bali. Indonesia is incredibly beautiful and its natural diversity allows visitors to engage in a wide variety of activities.

Recommendations for those going to the same place next summer:
A good translator! Ideally you’d have someone on your team who can speak the language, as well as a PROFESSIONAL medical translator for lectures!
